Stuart Scott is the chief information officer and executive vice president at J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc.
Stuart joined the company in 2016, bringing 30-plus years of experience leading data and technology initiatives for multiple companies in a variety of industries. In addition to modernizing J.B. Hunt's internal infrastructure, Stuart is transforming how data is captured and applied to help customers operate with greater efficiency. Under his direction, the engineering and technology organizations are responsible for enhancing the company’s technology capabilities, designing and managing networks, ensuring data is stored and transferred securely, and transitioning the company's legacy systems to a cloud-based framework. Stuart's innovative approach and outsider perspective have led to the continuous development of J.B. Hunt 360, the company's industry-leading technology platform where shippers and carriers can engage in a marketplace for freight matching, gain visibility into their operations, and access features that automate and streamline day-to-day efforts.
Before leading J.B. Hunt’s digital transformation, Stuart served as chief information officer of Tempur-Sealy International, where he led the upgrade of all business processes and information technologies across 26 countries through a single global platform. He also oversaw the integration of Sealy Corporation when Tempur-Pedic International acquired its largest competitor in 2012. As chief operating officer for TB&W financial services, Stuart was responsible for managing P&L, shared services, and $83B in assets. He served as chief information officer, corporate vice president, and enterprise risk management leader at Microsoft Corporation, where he led all internal technologies and participated in new product development. Stuart began his career with General Electric in 1986 and held a variety of domestic and international leadership roles during his 17-year tenure, including chief information officer for two company divisions. Stuart has also led business development and the Initial Public Offering process for a Silicon Valley startup.
Stuart is a strong advocate for the industry’s future leaders and has worked closely with the University of Arkansas on multiple programs. He helped establish the J.B. Hunt Innovation Center of Excellence at the UofA, a catalyst for research and development of business models and new, disruptive technologies. He also helped create J.B. Hunt On The Hill, an intern-focused office on the UofA-Fayetteville campus dedicated to helping students gain real-world experience in the transportation and logistics industry. Stuart currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the UofA and University of Louisville’s engineering colleges. He has been recognized with the distinguished Alumni Fellow award at University of Louisville and as Top CIO by numerous industry organizations and publications.
Stuart graduated from the University of Louisville with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in engineering mathematics and computer science. He also earned an MBA from Vanderbilt University.
