
Marcia Taylor is chief executive officer of the Bennett Family of Companies. She and her late husband, J.D. Garrison acquired the company in 1974, when it was a small contract carrier with five trucks and thirty trailers.
For 52 years, Taylor has overseen the company’s strategic growth into an international transportation management and supply chain solutions leader with nine primary business lines. Through its affiliated companies, Bennett provides commercial vehicle transport, manufactured housing transport, heavy-haul and specialized freight transportation, logistics, warehousing and distribution services, international freight forwarding, crane and specialized lifting services. The company and its entities employ more than 1,000 employees, 4,025 independent contractors, and include about 600 agent offices globally.
In addition to her work at Bennett, Taylor currently serves on several boards, including: United Community Bank Advisory Board, the Council for National Policy, Museum of the Bible and the National Museum of Wildlife Art. She previously served as board chair for Piedmont Henry Medical Center and on the Executive Board of the Georgia Motor Trucking Association, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and St. John’s Hospital.
Taylor has been recognized for her professional and civic accomplishments. She was recognized by the Henry County Andrew McBride Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution as its Woman in History for 2021. She received the award for all of the many contributions she has given the community. In 2017, she received the Horatio Alger Award from the Horatio Alger Association for Distinguished Americans and was honored as a “Women Who Means Business” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. In 2016, she received an Honorary Doctorate of Commerce from Clayton State University. In 2014, Taylor was named The Most Influential Woman in Trucking by the Women in Trucking Association. Other awards include the NDTA National Transportation Winner, Georgia’s Family Business of the Year for 2012 (Cox Family Enterprise), Entrepreneur of the Year (Venture Magazine), Industry of the Year (Henry County Chamber of Commerce), fifteen consecutive #1 rankings on the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s annual Top 25 Women-Owned Business List and most recently was named on Forbes Self-Made 250 list (2026) which celebrated 250 years of America and the men and women who best embody the grit, hustle and resilience of the American Dream.
Taylor is also CEO of the Taylor Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation established in 2012. Through the foundation, a percentage of Bennett’s quarterly profits are donated to nonprofit organizations whose mission align with the values of the family in communities nationwide. Taylor is married to Michael K.
Taylor. She has three grown children, David Lowry, Danny Lowry, and Lynette Mathis, who all work for the company, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
